MRI Doctors' Club

MRI Dr's club gathers together doctors, who have graduated from the laboratory during its existence. The purpose of the club may be summarised as:

  • Meeting the old friends once working with the Institute
  • Exchange of information between the participants
  • Support of graduate students at MRI

    Antti Lamminpää 2006
    High-accuracy characterization of optical components: detectors, coatings and fibers
    Antti has been working with VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland (2006-2009) and with Accenture Strategy Practice (2009-2013). Today he is working as a business development manager with Stena Recycling.

His duties include planning and development of the new optical radiometry laboratory of the observatory and participation in the student satellite project of the University of Tartu.     Works as a research scientist at the Centre for Metrology and Accreditation (MIKES) and at the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry, University of Helsinki. Guest researcher at the National Research Council, Ottawa, Canada (2008-2009). University of Helsinki (2006-2008).

    Jari Hovila 2005
    New Measurement Standards and Methods for Photometry and Radiometry
    Senior research scientist at the Earth Observation division of the Finnish Meteorological Institute. His work focuses on the development of the EUMETSAT Satellite Application Facility on Ozone and Atmospheric Chemistry Monitoring (O3M SAF) that, when operational, will produce near-real-time data of total ozone, ozone profiles and clear sky ultraviolet fields.

    Atte Haapalinna 2004
    Characterization Methods for Silicon Photodiode and Silicon Sub-Surface Properties
    In 1998 Atte joined Okmetic Oyj, a silicon wafer manufacturer. His thesis combined characterization studies on silicon sub-surfaces with spectroscopic research at MRI. He is currently working as an application manager with Okmetic.

    Toomas stayed with Metrology Research Institute about a year after his dissertation. In the end of 2000 he moved back across Finnish Gulf and started working at Metrosert Ltd as a head of division. Mostly, his job is administration of national standard laboratories in Estonia.

    Trap detectors and their applications in the realisation of spectral responsivity, luminous intensity and spectral irradiance scales.
    Since his graduation, Kärhä works with the Metrology Research Institute as a senior research scientist. His work includes running maintenance and development projects in the field of radiometry, lecturing, guiding dissertations, and quality management of the national standards laboratory.
