Introduction
The Metrology Research Institute (MIKES-Aalto Mittaustekniikka) is a laboratory specialising in science and technology in electronics and modern optics. The laboratory gives lectures in two major subjects, which are Electronics and Measurement Techniques and Optical Technology. Our laboratory offers you very interesting opportunities: optical communication, fibre optics, detector-based UV- and light measurement systems, new laser applications, precision metrology and electronics.
Electronics and Measurement Techniques
The basic courses of this major subject cover sensing, data acquisition, measurement accuracy, reliability and potential error sources. More advanced courses cover issues like present measurement- and data analysing programs, data busses, instrumentation in optical communications and virtual instrumentation. In our research work and in the joint projects with industry very accurate measurement and control systems have been developed.
Optical Technology
This major subject offers essential skills for mastering the modern optical technology: optical communication, fibre-optics, WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) -systems including characterisation of these components, semiconductor lasers and optical filters.
